"When Exercise Stresses You Out"
Just read an article in today's New York Times about a study conducted using lab rats at the University of Colorado/Boulder. What they discovered is that 2 groups of rats forced to run on running wheels, either at their own control or controlled by the scientists, ended up happy and well-adjusted. The other groups of sedentary rats and a group of treadmill runners showed high anxiety. They concluded that how you exercise might add to your comfort/emotional level and that experimenting with slowing and speeding up during a run or bike ride could be worthwhile. "More important, though, the study is a useful reminder that exercise is a proven, inexpensive and non-pharmalological means of combating stress--even, as it turns out, the stress of felling that you should be exercising."
So, go forth and exercise in whatever way you can!
Have a great day!
