It's easy to choose one!

Hello everyone -

Below is the content of today's email from MI Healthier Tomorrow. I thought I would share as it has great tips to make healthy changes for you and your family. What healthy choice can you commit to today?

Creating a healthy environment makes doing the right thing easy.

Don't let your environment sabotage your success. Willpower can't overpower a pantry filled with cookies and chips. To make healthier food choices, you have to stock healthier foods and leave the tempting treats at the grocery store. Even if other members of your household don't need to lose weight, everyone can benefit from healthier choices.

Here are some tips to make your environment healthier:

  • Purge the pantry of unhealthy snacks
  • Pre-cut fruits and vegetables so they are snack-ready in the fridge
  • Buy single-portion snacks and nuts or put them in portion-controlled bags
  • Keep gym shoes handy at work and in your car or home
  • Sit on a yoga ball and/or lift hand weights while watching TV
  • Make a rule to eat only at the kitchen table
  • Keep frozen vegetables handy for cooking
  • Keep frozen fruits handy for making smoothies
  • Have quick snacks like hard-boiled eggs, low-fat cheese sticks or Greek yogurt
  • Cook meals on the weekend to get you through the week
  • Put a bowl of fruit on the kitchen table for a healthy choice
  • Ask a family member or roommate to do the dishes to avoid after-dinner grazing
  • Put a pitcher of water with lemon in the fridge
For me, I have found that keeping frozen mixed veggies on hand and cooking chicken breasts in bulk help me to plan healthy meals for my week. What tips do you have?
