Never Say Never

There were two things I was never going to do. The first one was exercise and like it, the second was to count calories. Last year that all changed. The very beginning was the thought of walking the Cheetah Chase. Great idea to have a group meet so I was accountable to someone else (after all, I couldn't let the team down).

Well, I couldn't just go out and walk the Cheetah Chase, I had to try an easier course. Hello Cereal City Classic 5k. Wow, under 45 minutes for my first timed 5k!

Next was the Cheetah Chase. If I could do the Cereal City Classic, I could do the Cheetah Chase in at least the same time, if not faster. Can you say hill? Ok, it was the hill that never ended. Well, I finished that one, too.

There were other races last year and each one I got a little more confident and a little faster. My first never was broken. I was exercising and liking it.

Now, thanks to Win by Losing, I am counting calories and keeping track of them. There goes my next never. It really isn't all that bad. There are times I want to cheat (I really don't have to put that on the list), but I don't want to cheat me out of the goals I have set.

While there are only two weeks left of Win by Losing, I am happy to say I am on track to reach my weight goal by the date I have set.

Guess I'll just have to keep these two "nevers" on my to do list. What can you do that is on your "I'll Never Do...." list?

  1. What a GREAT thing Connie. I'm proud of you!!!
This is quite a challenge to put out....
On my "I'll Never Do" list....is RUN a 5K. Getting ready to do that. However, my knee says its close to my last. We'll see maybe with Michelle Wilson's help I'll get that figured out.

I bet that hill is A LOT easier this year. :>)

  2. Thanks so much for sharing Connie! How inspriring. Keep up the good work.

Mine was I will never be a runner. Then I ran my first mile on the treadmill. I then set the goal of doing a 5k - what could I be thinking! I completed my first running 5k on a treadmill. Wow - I never thought I would do that! Then I coerced my niece to run my first road 5k with me. I did a few more 5k's and even my kids joined me. Then, a 10k! Was I crazy or what?!?!? After that, a family member lovingly coerced me into signing up for a 1/2 marathon . . . this 'non-runner' was registered for a 1/2 marathon! I guess at this point I needed to consider the unthinkable - I was a runner!

The message - Never say NEVER! Set crazy goals and achieve crazy goals. Who would have ever thought that this 'non-runner/non-athlete' would run a 1/2 marathon . . . but I did and you can accomplish the unthinkable too, if you don't sell yourself short!
